My daughter's having trouble with a front seat belt on her Mondeo. It won't always 'click' in. I see the problem end includes the pre-tensioner.
I presume this pre-tensioner is an explosive device and as such should be treated with great care.
Is it acceptable to just change one part of a seat-belt? There's something in the back of my mind about the two parts being a 'matched pair'.
They're dirt cheap on ebay!

Can't see any problem with just changing the stalk assy.Check you have the same part number and disconnect the battery before attempting the job.The belt and buckle are not a matched pair.hth

Vauxhall do a latch repair kit for just this eventuality so worth checking to see if Ford do the same. VX example here: tinyurl.com/4y3vmpc

That hadn't occurred to me Victorbox, but sadly it seems that sort of thing isn't available.
Thanks anyway.

Now got a sensible reply from: www.talkford.com/
I can highly recommend them, as long as I don't lose a limb in following their advice!

I've changed seatbelts before on the Rover and the Escort, but for different reasons (one had damage to the webbing caused by overtightening a car seat, another had a jammed inertia reel). The pretensioner and buckle assembly all comes as one piece, as long as you don't clout the pretensioner you should be fine.
Both times I bought replacement belts from a scrapyard - about £15 IIRC - I removed them from the cars myself so I could see the donor vehicles hadn't been scrapped through accident damage.
I second the advice about disconnecting the battery - my dad's car had the driver's seat replaced under warranty and it had to go back because it threw up a fault code due to having the pretensioner and airbags unplugged during the changeover.
