Argos have 5lt neat antifreeze for £5.99 - Squeezed this in at the start so it appears in the "Latest Forum Posts" section for a few minutes... I've just reserved the last bottle (Holts 2-year ethylene glycol) at the Loughborough store though.

When the supermarkets are selling "ready-mix", ie 50% water, for £2.99 a litre, and Halfords have got 5 litres for £21.99, this looks like quite a bargain :)

Thanks for that tip D, bagged the last 2 at Rushden for the kids.

Kinda rusty brown I'd think. More or less the same as that Merc is slowly turning as it stands there, neglected, unloved and abandoned.......

We used to have an Argos/Woolworth end-of-line type shop. I bought five litres of 'diesel' anti-freeze more years ago than I care to remember.

Now its run out, I guess I'll have to pay whatever the local factors charge.

Its cheap but only the price I pay at my local autofactor. Talking of bargains Quality Save have had some branded (forget the brand) 10/40 semi synth for £8.99 for 5 litres!

I paid £10 for 1 litre at my not very local FIAT dealer the other week but I was a bit unsure what type of oil to get so I got it from the dealer so if there is any come back I have it.

It tends to be half what ever supermarkets charge :)

Doesn't mixing colours sometimes turn the coolant to mush?

Just remember that this is not "longlife" anti-freeze and will require replacing regularly.

It's ok, my car is not a "longlife" car...

I last changed the antifreeze in September 2008, a hangover from my dad's advice to do it every two years before the first frost of autumn. This is the 3rd longest lasting car I've had.

I wouldn't be surprised iffy, i like having the long life red stuff in and will replace like for like.

In the case of both my lovely barmy kids...the Scooby will have been stripped for yet another modification/repair/rebuild at least once in the next two years...daughters 106 will never make another 2 years the way she thrashes and abuses the poor thing.

I thought dispensing motoring advice was beneath the AA these days.

Seems not: www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/seasonal/winter_motoring.html

Quoting: "The majority of modern cars use long-life antifreeze, and it is absolutely essential that you don't mix these with other types as this can cause a sludge to form in the engine."

Good advice given there, well worth the read.
