 Renault Master - 02 2.2 poss EGR fault?? - MD
The stop light and the engine symbol have come on together. It hesitated briefly the day before yesterday. When Pulling out of a junction yesterday morning it juddered quite heavily then it's was fine. It ran ok then through several more stop starts all day and then cut out on way home. It turns over and starts, but not smoothly BUT it sounds awfully lumpy when you turn the engine off. any thoughts?

Best bet is to get any fault codes read out.

Beats any guesswork as to what might be wrong.

The problem with fault code reading is that the results are no more than a pointer. they are not definitive. I might be leaning towards a Crank position sensor.

If it was a crank position sensor fault wouldn't you expect a fault code to be present?

When my Vectra-C wouldn't tick over properly, the fault code readout said it was the MAF (Mass Air Flowmeter). I fitted a replacement MAF and the problem went away. Definitive enough for me.

You said the fault light is on, hence there's probably a stored fault code waiting to be read out. Alternately just keep guessing.

It started without a hitch. No warning lights. Orf to the menders for a plug in. No faults showing except the ever present glow plug fault. I give up.......until the next time.

New garage yesterday. Young bloke with a repu' for diagnosis tout suite. dropped orf at 08.00. tripped into town to do some business. Returned to him at 09.30. Almost sure it's the Air flow meter he said, but only 99% sure (that'll do me). Went back at 11.00., paid the bill and flocked orf back to work job done. Many other had scratched their heads and worse. This guy just did it. Reasonable cost too. Well happy.
