FIAT Ducato Sevel X250 - 01 1.1 Generator problem - R.P.

My truck has an American made petrol generator - it's like a small nuclear power station when its running properly - I think around 3.5 Kilowatts. Anyway it's running badly. In keeping with the machine's engineering it has a large exhaust worthy of a small car. I noticed today that the the end of the exhaust has been crimped almost flat...would this have a detrimental effect on the smooth running of the generator...?

Has it always been crimped, or have you, erm, done something you'd rather not admit?

It would certainly restrict output and cause extra back pressure on the engine, unless it's been designed that way. Take for example how an engine stuggles to run if you put your hand over the end of the exhaust to check for leaks.
