Volvo S40 - 06 2.4d Key getting stuck in ignition - Auntie Lockbrakes
Car is 7 years old & 80k miles. When turning off the engine the key won't come out of the ignition barrel. Have succeeded a couple of times by jiggling it and pushing it in to the dashboard a bit, but this is hit and miss. Quick web browse suggests and electronic Start Control Unit in the ignition barrel has failed?

Anyone got any experience or suggestions?

Cheers.

You are probably correct, this is a common problem. The start control unit needs replacing .Not a difficult job but you will need to remove the instrument cluster for access. It is secured by torx drive screws. There is no need to programme the new unit.
