Commer 74 1.7 Valve work - any recommendations - commerdriver
I have a little problem, buttercup has developed a sticky valve and I need a recommendation to get it fixed and, while the head is off, get it converted to run on unleaded.

Any suggestions would be helpful
Is this an engine out job or can it be done just with a head removal?

MODS Please can you get Commer added to the list of makes or put a general one for classics or something, it's a bit stupid insisting on a make and model and not putting an option for others which are no longer made, thanks

I'll try and look into it sometime, although it might be something SK has to do. I've manually changed the header for now. VX

No idea about the 1725 50bhp rootes engine (assume thats yours), but I assume you have asked on here?

I have removed the head and pistons etc from Hillmans with engine in situ, so fully expect all of this work can (well with a bit of cursing) be done without the engine needing to come out.

Whilst the head is off it might be worth pulling the pistons out and checking/renewing rings and crank bearing shells.

thanks GB, as you can imagine, getting the engine out is a major exercise up or down the way

Good Lord it must be 35 years since but i've just recalled the sump gaskets where they fit round the end caps might be shaped round them and have fibre type gaskets to fit, so if you disturb the sump be prepared for a swine of a job to reseal it, mucho hermetites of various colours needed.

Course the van might be different entirely and my sudden recall might be from an ealier 1600..;)
