Evening.....I am new to this site but need some help with my Citreon C4. About 2 weeks ago i lost power into my gearbox, i was getting revs from the accelerator but it wasn't relaying info to the gearbox hence no power/movement. I have had it checked with Citreon and they say i need a whole new gearbox...The problem i have had with this is that only last May 2012 i had a service warning light come on and payed out £500 pounds to fix this, they are saying it isn't the same problem but if it was correctly fixed (oil levels etc) last year should this have happened!! With the car only being 6/7 years old and 60k miles i believe this shouldn't have happened unless a fault in the gearbox. Can i claim against Citreon UK??
Any help you can give me would be greatly appriciated as i am at the mercy of Citreon...

I'd get the car to someone like: www.fedauto.co.uk/memfind.htm if I were thee guvnor, you ain't going to get a brass pfennig out of Citroen IMO.

Is this a proper automatic gearbox or an electronic robotised manual gearbox. If it is the latter, then it could be a worn/slipping clutch.
|
Whats the difference...Autobox with the option to flip it into manual pushin up or down on lever!!
|
Is there a "P" for park position on the selector lever. If there isn,t ,then I would suspect this is an automatically shifted manual geabox, which has a conventional clutch, just like a 5/6 speed car with 3 pedals.hth
|
Yes i have a "P" so fully auto i think
|
If the car used to lurch a bit when it changed gear, its an EGS, not a 'proper' torque converter auto. I thought they only did TC autos on 2 litres in the C4, but I could be wrong. Could just be a failed clutch, and I doubt a new box is required.

Go to a good autobox specialist probably a failed hydraulic pump or some such.

As others have suggested get it to a specialist. Main dealers and manufacturers are getting more and more hard nosed about defects. I recently paid 800€ after I took my car into a main dealer with a sticking caliper. i agreed to have the rear brakes overhauled. I still have a sticking caliper and paid an extra 200€ at another dealer to sort out the mess the original dealer made.
The "new" parts were mounted minus parts (retaining springs) and the "genuine parts" failed after less than 4 months and 4,5k miles.
Volvo Sweden have yet to respond but the local representative does not want to know saying the issue is with the dealer. The brakes on the car have only ever been serviced and replaced by Volvo approved workshops.
I refuse to darken the doors of that bunch of muppets again. They released my car out of the workshop which would fail an MOT and the manufacturer and local agent don't want to know. That's Volvo for you.
If you've got a good dealer/manufacturer support give them your money otherwise walk, they might get the message.
