According to Mr Haynes (ha ha) fitting a clutch cable on one of these is straight forward. Any knuckle skinning pitfalls to beware of?

If it's the same as earlier Astra's then the only problem is the restricted space under the dashboard to disconnect the old cable and connect the new cable to the clutch pedal.

IIRC, most of it is straight forward.

It's worth putting a gob of grease on the nipple that connects to the pedal - stops the annoying clutch pedal noise that used to afflict older Vauxhalls

Clutch cables are fashion items, they change style by the season.

There was a choice of 6 for Nicoles R5, all requiring a "conversion" kit.

"Conversion" never stopped the damn things breaking on an annual basis.

Every time we've used a motor factors cable it fails again soon afterwards (frayed cable) or pops out of the pedal, as it is similar but not an exact match. Never had any issues with a genuine GM cable and only about £10 more.

I thought it was either the pedal spring or pivot point that gave the annoying squeak.

I can confirm a dab of grease on a Mk3 Cavalier clutch cable nipple end cures the squeak you get each time the pedal is depressed!
