 Vauxhall Zafira B - 06 1.8 Central Locking problems - hillman1
Currently experiencing central locking problems on the Zafira. The NSR door will not lock at the moment.

We have the version with keyless entry, so can lock the car either by pressing the front door handles or using the key fob, we cannot lock it manually with a key. To unlock the car you just pull one of the handles and it unlocks automatically.

When locking and unlocking the car you can hear the lock making the right noise, but the door remains unlocked.

Just recently we had a few occasions when we came to the car and the window on that door had opened slightly, I didn’t think anything of it at the time, assuming the window had been left open, but now not so sure.

I know that one of the possibilities is the wiring between door and car, but haven’t been able to get to it to check. Before I get it to the garage does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks

Certainly worth checking the wiring to the door from b post where it runs through rubber conduit.Seen lots of these and Astra H models with broken/rotted wiring.Vauxhall do a repair kit but it is not cheap.hth

+1

The wires from the car to the door *will* be broken. We had this on our 2006 Zafira a couple of years ago. In our car the speaker stopped working first, followed by the electric rear window. The door lock would have been next.

Easy enough to fix, although if the door is stuck locked, then you'll need to remove the interior trim with the door closed to get at it. Tricky, but do-able. You're lucky at the minute that it's locked *open*... Fix it before you manage to lock it - if the wire makes contact...

Then peel the boot open and marvel at Vauxhall's terrible door wire routing. Replace/fix wires as appropriate.

You might want to look at the other door's wiring, that will follow soon enough. We bought another Zafira, a 2007 model with less miles a year or so ago. That also was showing signs of wires about to break on both doors.

Thanks guys for the comments. On further internet searching it certainly looks like this is the problem. I tried getting access to the wiring last evening without a hge amount of joy and even if I had I would only have been able to see the wires- not do a huge amount with them!

Think I'll book it in with a local decent garage armed with the knowledge I have been given.

Thanks for your time,

Nick

Sooner rather than later!

I left mine when it started playing up, the wiring shorted and burned out the locking ECU. Blew a hole clean through one of the on-board relay packs and the copper bridge wire / heatsink got so hot it desoldered itself!
I'd hate to think how much that would have cost for a garage fix, I got a S/H unit of eBay and programmed it with OP-COM after fettling the wiring. Largest expense was getting GM to cough up the security codes for the car.....

Hello All

Off some help & history here with these broken door wires,my Astra H Estate SRI December 05 plate, noticed inside lamp would not light up with the opening up of the OSR door,i new was possible wring breaks as had same problems on an Astra G model with tail gate,my garage soon found that this was the case with broken wires, the light wire had broken in half and the other wires on the way to braking in half to,problems down to door flexing all the time putting strain on these wires in the loom and also looks like these wires get brittle over time as well, thus caursing the braking in half of the wires, ive not seen any vauxhall re-calls on this so far either,i will be ringing vauxhall about this now.
My garage parted all the damaged wires about 6 of them and re-joined them up again making a real good job of it and pulling more cable through so to allow more movement of the wiring loom,it can be done lying on ones back working under the door looking upwards, did not need trim taking off or the door either, just need to undo the connectors etc and reattch and solder up with good connectors used as my garage did, about 2 hours work and cost me £90 all in.We know vauxhall do a replacement part wiring loom at about £90 then of couse the labour on top plus vat to,but this can only be done we think by a vauxhall dealer only? its getting hold of the part and number as well, but it works out cheaper to re-attache that way, would be real expensive to use a vauxhall rage to do this repaire, and we are pritty sure a vauxhall garage would not just re-attach the wires, but put in this part new upgraded wiring loom, vauxhall policy?.What one needs to do is as soon as one starts to have any problems with say interor lamp, speaker, locking on any suspecting door, then get it fixed as soon as possible, before the problem getts any bigger and expensive with burn outs etc,ive seen all these wires in my local garage being repaired and my garage boss guy doing the repaire says one of those larger wires is a feed wire to and if it shorts out there would be very big problems if it touches the body work ete,so one can see this sort of problem needs sorting out asap,if one is compatent then one can do the repairs oneself, remembering to disconnect the battery before starting work as well.

Hope this all helps anyone out now,Dave9658,23rd Sept 2012,Thank You.

Agreed, the sooner you do it the better. It's also very DIYable, as long as you disconnect battery as suggested!

Thanks everyone. I got it to a local garage and they repaired several of the wires that had gone, soldering and then heat shrinking. They did say a few more were looking as though they wouldn't last much longer but felt it would be best to leave them and only deal with them as and when they actually do go.

An hour labour and £59 total cost. I had removed all the trim beforehand, but don't think that would have made a massive difference in terms of time taken.

I spoke to a Vauxhall dealer who said that they didn't feel it was a problem specific to the Zafira- 'all cars have this problem over time Sir'. Were going to charge £90+vat just to investigate initially. They told me that there isn't a repair kit, and the entire loom would need replacing.....

All working fine now....

If I were doing the job, I would have done them too.

Quite correct. I can remember working on a couple of Mk3 Escorts that were only 4 or 5 years old and several of the wires between the bodywork and hatch had broken, resulting in no rear wiper or heated screen. Part of the head lining had to be pulled out the way to access the wiring.

Just for future reference. The repair kit is available from vauxhall for both Astra H and Zafira b models priced at £93 +vat per side!!!.Part no to give the dealer that says it does not exist is 93189351.My local dealer keeps them in stock. So obviously not a known problem???.hth
