The faster the move to EVs the faster the move to recoup that lost revenue. You can expect road tax(*) to go up, significantly and punishingly to close that gap, regardless of what HM gov offers as incentives to go EV (and you cant expect them to stick to any promises in that area either) *or other form of road pricing. It’s the motor industry that wants the change, not the government. I suspect they will be disappointed. There is little UK car manufacturing left so few jobs at risk. Keeping the plan in place keeps the price of EVs lower as mainly the Chinese battle for market share. The reality is that most barriers to EV purchase are completely illusory for those with the ability to recharge off road.
