Sales do seem to be increasing but not at the rate of the gov target, I'd say their 2030 target is now impossible to meet.

They don't need incentives any more. The EVs are good enough now to be attractive buys without incentives and the last few months of Middle East war and the resulting spikes in fuel prices and even availability should convince many people to go electric.

Shouldnt be. VAT and Fuel duty is a major source of government revenue. The faster the move to EVs the faster the move to recoup that lost revenue. You can expect road tax(*) to go up, significantly and punishingly to close that gap, regardless of what HM gov offers as incentives to go EV (and you cant expect them to stick to any promises in that area either)

*or other form of road pricing. Road tax is quickest easiest tho

It’s the motor industry that wants the change, not the government. I suspect they will be disappointed.

There is little UK car manufacturing left so few jobs at risk. Keeping the plan in place keeps the price of EVs lower as mainly the Chinese battle for market share.

The reality is that most barriers to EV purchase are completely illusory for those with the ability to recharge off road.

For those who can only use public chargers there does need to be some improvement in pricing and availability - but whether the ban dates are changed is irrelevant as the improvements will anyway be necessary.
