Interesting character. He was later responsible I gather for the Hockney gallery at Salts Mill which I have visited. JS died young I think. Full credit to Jonathan for saving Salts. He bought a bankrupt mill in Huddersfield before that which is how I came to know him. The Hockney permanent exhibition is worth going to. As is the Hepworth in Wakefield. Some of his stuff is good, iconic, orginal, some of it "of his time" but not aged well, and some of it rubbish. Hockney was a good friend of Jonathan Silver, same school again and a contemporary of a good friend. JS bought, and ultimately saved, the wonderful Salts Mill complex, and DH did some great paintings of the place. Worth a google. I have prints of several DH works…Garrowby Hill in E Yorks which i regularly drove up & down, The Yorkshire Wolds in 4 seasons, and Pear Blossom boulevard, a very clever photo montage which DH took up a step ladder.
