I was a big fan of Tony Pond - good enough to have run at world championship level if he had driven LHD cars (he always refused) and hadn’t had such a strong link to BL/ARG.

Skip forward to 2016 and here’s Mark Higgins in a very definitely non-standard Subaru on the IOM.

I like this video.
Tony Pond in an (allegedly) bog standard Rover 827 vitesse,
I had 3 Rover 827's,
An 827 Vitesse, followed by a Sterling also 827 and then a 2.oT.
Favourite was the 827 Vitesse.
Tony Pond IOM.

It's just staggering to watch the on board video, and to contemplate the average speeds. The risk level exceeds that of Formula 1 in the 50s/60s/70s and it's still happening.

I love watching the chairs race too, but sadly the class seems to be dying now. They must be murder to ride on the island, the work both rider and passenger need to do to keep the things on the tarmac is incredible.

After a couple of serious accidents in practice, injuring competitors, they've decided to ban sidecars for 2026, pity, because it was what I enjoyed most. I can understand why, because they're dangerous, which added to their excitement. I reckon they should only be raced on grand prix type circuits, with large run-off areas. They're an anachronism, much like the Monaco GP.

I understand, that this year, they reduced the maximum carburettor size from 34mm to 27mm, yet they still managed to attain tremendous speeds on a device with all the aerodynamic characteristics of a brick!

The IOM TT is inherently dangerous and I hope it continues.

I've ridden outfits rarely and found them challenging.

I'd like to see the 50cc and 125cc classes return.
