Well, did this journey over the weekend, left Lanarkshire at 6am on saturday and arrived in Cardiff 1.15 with quick coffee stops at Southwaite on the M6 and Frankley on the M5. Some hold ups on M5 and M4 but nothing major.
Coming back yesterday google maps took me from Cardiff along the A40 or A449 , cant mind, but basically joined the M5 much further up and had a pretty easy journey back, actually only stopping at Frankley and then drove rest of way.
However on the opposite carriageway both M5 and M6 there were some seriously long delays and jams, must check to see what caused them.
And I did this in my 2016 X1 diesel, the car I am humming and hawing as to change for an EV or PHEV, the car I still smile every time I drive it.
Set my cruise control to 75 (real speed 72) most of the journey and returned a total mpg of 53.6.
At the services I stopped at there seemed to be plenty of free chargers but everyone I watched looked as if they were using a public charger for the first time and were having to read all instructions and get on their phone and get their wallets out and scratch their heads!
Now this journey was very unusual for me, probably the 1% of my driving that wouldnt totally lend itself to having an EV.
But good to have an old car that doesnt have all the bings and bongs warnings that modern cars do have! And I assume newer cars with adaptive cruise control use their brakes to keep the distance required from vehicle in front? Seen a lot of cases where you are travelling in "convoys" all at same speed but a car seemingly braking occasionally for no apparent reason
