The issue for the UK is that, once the transition period expires (31st Dec currently) and we finally leave the EU arrangements, then that status under the EU Treaty lapses, and we effectively become a "third country" under Schengen rules, and the 90 in 180 comes into force.
AIUI, it could be worse, since the UK will be allowed visa-less travel for that period, whereas most other countries citizens require a visa (covering the same duration).
