I just changed from a 3 - 4 year old phone to a recently released one. I've gained a new, and apparently more secure, version of android and a gazillion more pixels in the camera than I can actually see.
I can't see that I've gained any functionality I care about though.
Though I will say that the Type C connector seems a far more robust approach.
