No posts at all for 6 days in the non-motoring section. Has everyone come over here? It looks like it, we are enjoying informed, wide ranging and lively discussion.
|
Don't use it anymore, even to "nosey"
Out of all the websites I go on, on either work or home PC, it is still the only one that causes annoying pop-ups on screen.
|
I posted on there last week, then got a flood of popups so gave up. HJ killed the forum. This has all been discussed before though.
|
While its all been discussed before, its nice to check in and see if we were right in the first place.
Its nice being right really.
|
I really have no comment aboout HJ, not visited for a long time.
I'm impressed by the fact that C4P seems to have become a club for a load of different, friendly, chums who all seem to get on with the others and are not shy about posting a little risque topic now and again.
I'd like to see a few more first names, now we're all mates. personalise it a bit more. No harm in that, I think.
Come on. who's coming out first ?

Ah! Thought that might have been the year of your birth...

Cheeky! Thats would make me 10 years older than my dad which would be a neat trick.

Simon.
I posted on HJ under my real name for a while. Stopped when scope for professional embarrassment commenting on issues around the justice system became clear.

I seem to remember that the RAF were asked to stop flying over Antartica? - because all the Penguins were looking at the planes overhead and were all falling over backwards, - anywhere near?

"C4P seems to have become a club"
Exactly. The Backroom was a pub, and members of the public kept on walking in. If they didn't behave, the regulars glared at them. Some even became regulars. But this place is a club. We don't have a regular flow of members of the public popping in.
How many of the regulars here didn't frequent the Backroom before February? Two? One? Fewer?
|
MoT backwards.
I only look at HJ now when it is mentioned here, otherwise never. I don't even recognise most of the names there now.
|
My 1st is in ram but never in mac, my 2nd is in macro but never in micro, my 3rd is in byte but never in bite.

Are you talking about feeding the pony?

Nope, not even choking the chicken

MD. YES to both bits..............Martin & Devon. Wouldn't have it any other way. Nice club to be sure.

I was pondering on the lack of new faces only recently. One thought occured to me of "inviting" people I know who I think might be interested to have a look at the site to see if they would enjoy it and possibly join in. Trouble with that one is that some of us enjoy using the cloak of relative anonymity on here to vent our feelings about our "real" lives and events therein ! It would be more difficult to speak so freely if one knew there were others present who might use such information in ways we would prefer that they did not.
Secondly, I find the use of internet chat has extended my social circle and while I know some of my friends from other activities or parts of my life probably would enjoy this, in a way I see it as a slightly dangerous thing to have too many with an offstage potentially private agenda.
Having said that, there may well be people on here that I "know" through the forum and "know" elsewhere but have not yet connected the two identities.
|
I'm not privvy to the long term plans - but I was going to suggest that regulars place some invites with people they know via FB etc..
|
>> I'm not privvy to the long term plans
Those builders never did come back and pave the drive.
Just as well we didn't pay cash up front. :-)
|
"there may well be people on here that I "know" through the forum and "know" elsewhere but have not yet connected the two identities."
Are you suggesting that the bloke who flips your burgers at Watford Gap might well be Zero?
|
Isnt there a facebook page for this site? If not, there should be.
|
I'm spending too much time on here.
I'm in the middle of a project that I detest and consequently keep flicking over to C4P. I was the same at school. I never did any revision, I just constructed more and more elaborately designed revision charts.
Good job I'm very very very bright.
|
If I don't tell myself, who will...?

Ohh dont, I can see him wringing his hands in a very Uriah Heap creapy kinda way

He does more than that to your burgers....
|
>>"there may well be people on here that I "know" through the forum and "know" elsewhere but have not yet connected the two identities."<<
Both my neighbors are connected to the motor trade in one way or another so that could indeed be a remote possibility and although I have nothing to hide, the bra and panties episode could easily be misconstrued :}
|
My name is Ian and well its obvious who I am from HJ.
|
My Christian name can't be abbreviated, and as my military nickname was totally unique I can't post it here. You can call me Old or Navy. :)

You're not really old enough to be called Old though! Think you have to be 80 for that these days.

Old Navy is just a clothing brand, (more common in the USA).
|
Captain Pugwash or Seaman Staines ?

Just for info, I have not gone off in a huff, I am going to be out of touch for a few days, I don't do the interweb thingy while pensioner roaming.

I'm David and as you know I moderate on HJ. C4P has become a club - and a delightful one too. The HJ forum hasn't in any way been killed by HJ - just settled down as a place where people can come and consult about cars and motoring - which is what HJ intended it to be. It's very good that we have both and I'm happy to belong to both: vive la difference.
A thick skin is an advantage - I'm proud of mine - but sadly Oilrag, a sensitive soul, has been upset by people on both forums and has retired hurt from both.
We'll keep the general discussion section open on HJ for occasional comments and questions, but this forum is clearly the place for it, as HJ is for technical queries.
Whatever happens, let's co-exist and not knock each other's forums.
|
Fair enough Avant.
And bye the way, I am no longer a lad nor do I drive a Subaru!
The future Mrs L hates all Subarus, especially the looks of the Spec B Tourer which is still on my wish list.
|
Dave, obviously... Not a Taxi Driver any more, although I've just started back as a (part time for now) Truck Driver. Got Brum and West Mids tomorrow after taking the nipper to school.

Well, I'm Pat:)
Totally agree with everything Avant says above and I do have some misgivings about inviting people I know on here.
This is partt of MY secret life, even Ian ( Mr pda) doesn't look at these forums and as I have a duty to moderate, contribute and do admin on the PDA forums it's so nice to come on here and it not be classed as work.
I like to see the christian names too, and it makes it feel like home!

>> A thick skin is an advantage - I'm proud of mine - but sadly Oilrag, a sensitive soul, has been upset by people on both forums and has retired hurt from both.
I can't claim a thick skin, but I can't say I am devastated by rudeness (or very occasionally justified criticism or reproof) from people I don't know personally. I feel that having had to go to boarding school at an early age makes people more stoical about such matters. Boys' schools are good for developing a robust form of po-faced but insulting badinage which goes well here. Zero and BBD do a good double act with it, although of course they may both have been at girls' approved schools before they found their true level in Borstal.
My father constantly warned me that I would end up in Borstal. But I wasn't bright enough to pass the entrance exams.
|
>>Boys' schools are good for developing a robust form of po-faced but insulting badinage<<
I 'attended' an LCC Approved School Lud, does that count :)
sort of a boarding school really innit.

The style of a recent posting on HJ by one "CL Grease" seems strangely familiar...

That's almost certainly him isn't it. And he did like to layer on the grease under his Punto.
Couldn't resist saying welcome back oilrag on that thread ;-)

I thought of posting something, but decided not to. Nice to see he's around, anyway.

Yes it is, but the guy was a bit too high maintenance for my liking.
That, and I'm no fan of prose no one can understand.
|
Well I'm Gord. Given my sorry history with Honda, reported on here and on HJ, anyone that knows me could work out who I am from my posts anyway.
|
Alex here. I have the same screen name on HJ. Don't go there much- I like the banter over here more.
Sorry to hear about oily, even if I didn't always grasp his posts at first.
|
None of you will EVER guess what my name is ;-)
|
Well over in the other place I was helicopter.....and turned it around when I came here
I do not want to reveal my real name......
....Just call me hell .....
|
Surprisingly, I'm Terry. Don't post often but check in quite regularly.
|
"Don't tell him your name, Pike !" Capn Mainwaring, Dad's Army.
PS I just might live in South London and just might have an Estate car.
|
Come out?
I never went in.
(Well, I did for about a fortnight when I came over here and then got fed up with the confusion).
You can find me anywhere - ask anyone...
|
I'm John (and i'm not kidding on :-) but its a long story and i prefer Craig for the past however many years, so Craig it is.
|
Maybe some of you know this already from mods emails but I'm Geoff
But smokie it is on this forum, HJ and one other.
I've actually met the guys on the other forum many many times now, and I answer to the name smokie in real life....
|
Family and some friends know me by one name but a lot of friends know me by another.
However I will answer to Crocks from them all.
It's not to do with the cars I drive but from my surname.
|
Been called many names from my time as moderator on HJ, most of it by email.
I'm sure it won't surprise anyone by saying it's actually David.
|
So, no Tarquins, Peregrines or Marmadukes out there.
Well, you've probably guessed my name by now. I'm Ted to SWMBO and various others.
MIL always called me Edward and various pals call me Ed, Eddie or , in one case, Ned.
My 3 late Aunties always called me Teddy...my childhood handle ! I rather like it now eccentricity is looming !
Call me what you like....but don't call me early !

I'm Darcy. The birth certificate says "d'Arcy" in memory of a French ancestor who gambled and womanised his fortune away but there are just too many apostrophes around today.
|
Three seconds with Google and I know the telephone number of one of the posters on this thread...
|
I've found some people on Face Book using the e-mail addresses in the profiles
|
I know all you have to do is put my name into France Telecom's 'pages blanches' with no other details of location at all and up I pop...Just tried it out of interest and there's even an aerial view of my house (a few years ago)
|
I do wonder what happened to 'the other side'.
I joint up on the other side just before the other forum was changed and I must say its now worse for it.
After a couple of weeks I was informed of this excellent site and joint up.
I am glad I did.
Its nice that everyone is here and the past advice from you all has been excellent and saved me money.
As for the popup's, I never had a problem but I do have ad block installed in my firefox web browser.
|
My name's Tim and I'm an alco... oops wrong meeting. I'm Tim and I'm a caravanner (even worse than the AA confessions?). The greenies will probably hate me too because I drive a landcruiser with nice off-road tyres and am always up for a green lane or two!
|
theres some simple answers to some questions over there too
|
I'm Steve :)
Regular reader & only a one time poster. Disliked the intense moderation elsewhere - you always felt you were missing part of the conversation so I was happy to move across to somewhere that treats posters as adults.
|
...& only a one time poster...
Enoughalready,
You do yourself a disservice.
Your forum stats says five posts in seven weeks - that's almost prolific and enough to appear on my regular contributors list in the other thread. :)
|
>>...& only a one time poster...
I think one or two introduced themselves, but we haven't heard from them since.
|
'Your forum stats says five posts in seven weeks'
Goodness, something was obviously bothering me :D
|
Another non-motoring and non-porn(!) forum that I visit has one member who has posted 16,701 times since May '99. There's prolific for you!
Our Tech section hasn't had any posts for 3 days.

I'm not sure who's in the lead at the moment but there are two or three members on 'Cycle Chat' (founded c2007) on over 20,000 posts.

...there are two or three members on 'Cycle Chat' (founded c2007) on over 20,000 posts...
Zero on here is close to 4,400 posts in 28 weeks, so he's on target to hit 20,000 sometime in 2012.
|
and 4000 of them are insults.
Thats good going.
|
Im Stephen
Live in the North East just outside my “birth” county of North Yorkshire
I occasionally have a look at the other place, but only because the technical section seems to be more active and I like to have a read through – but all the pop ups, and the flash adds slow done my PC so I don’t go on it very much.
I like this place more, and I want to say thanks to all who have me made me feel welcome. If in some of my posts I have come across rude then im truly sorry I never meant to upset anyone.
I like to contribute when I can but feel a little guilty as I don’t start new topics as much as other members its only because I never can think of something interesting quick enough

I see one of our old friends from the Br that came here briefly, (and was renowned for his "creative" style of writing), has, since his exile, made a brief return there (under a new Nome de plume) to let folk know that he has started his own "blog".
So if you miss him "here", you can find him "there"!

"Name him!" - really, I'd like to know too, as I have a suspicion and would have a look. You'd have to tell me where. Probably.

Well ok then! our old mate "oilrag" appears reincarnated as CL Grease in the non motoring section, theres a link to his new blog page there too.
